SNOW

Today, I woke up to my husband saying "WHOA" as he opened the front door.  So of course, I smiled to myself knowing exactly what that meant, snow.  Hooray I thought!  Hooray for some bright natural light to practice and experiment with.  But, it was a blizzard outside, and I do not DARE take my camera out in that, so I practiced through Braxton's bedroom window.  It was really fun to finally let the camera take in all the natural light it could.  All of this pictures I had my ISO on the lowest setting.  I practiced with the exposure compensation button (kinda fun), allowing some pictures to be more exposed then others.  Most of the shutter speeds for pictures were taken at somewhere between 1/80-1/125.  It was fun to finally NOT have to use a flash, and let the camera do the work.  Here is what I came up with through the window.
(these are not RAW images, a few touch ups to help out with light was needed.)

So this afternoon, I went slightly "picture" crazy and could not stop snapping photos.  Braxton was even slightly cooperating!  I opened up our back window only to find MORE snow and thought..."ooooo something to photograph!"
So, I whipped out my camera, and played around with my scene settings.  I took the snow pictures on the snow/beach setting, and then I played around with the silhouette setting with Braxton.  Most all of the pictures of Braxton, I HARDLY touched up, some of them I didn't even touch.  This was a really fun setting to photograph with and I got to play around with some color too.

Beginning

Yep! I am the "beginner" in progress.  That's me.  Zero knowledge.  Starting from scratch.  Thank goodness there is a manual, dvds, books, blogs, friends, etc.  I thought I could take pretty decent photos with my small digital camera, giving me the confidence I needed to attempt a DSLR.  So, this blog is about my journey, my story, my love for simple things, and hopefully my progression towards something better than where I am starting now.

So, here are the specs.  I am shooting with a Nikon D5000, and so far, love it.  I am far from great at this point.  The first 5 pictures I took, were TERRIBLE and I thought, what the heck!?!?!  This is a DSLR camera!  Every picture I take should be amazing!  Yeah right.
So I am learning.
This is my story.
Here are my first photos.
